We are delighted to have been selected by Working to Recovery UK for their 2017 Mental Health Recovery Camp.
The camp will take place from the afternoon on Thursday, September 7th to the morning of Tuesday, September 12th. The Mental Health Recovery Camp is in its third year and is open to anyone who has experience of mental health issues either personally or as a worker, family member or friend.
Mental Health Recovery Camp Organisers
The camp is organised by Ron Coleman and Karen Taylor of Working to Recovery. Ron is a mental health trainer and consultant and has firs hand experience of the psychiatric system during his own route to recovery. This gave him insight into the challenges facing today’s mental health services. Karen is a registered mental nurse (RMN) with many years’ experience. She has experience designing and managing innovative community care services. Ron and Karen are directors of Working to Recovery Ltd.
Mental Health Recovery Camp at Barnutopia
The first Working to Recovery Mental Health Summer Recovery Camp was held in June 2015 in Dumfries, Scotland. The second was in June 2016 in Ivybridge, Devon, England. The 2017 camp is at Barnutopia.
Guest may book the glamping accommodation or bell tents brought in especially for the camp. Some guests may choose to book into local bed and breakfast guesthouses and hotels. If you live nearby, you could get day passes.
What Do Participants Do at the Mental Health Recovery Camp?
During the Recovery Camp there are talks, debates, workshops, alternative therapy and lots of other activities. Every morning there is a discussion led by an invited speaker followed by the workshops. Workshops may be run by anyone attending the event. In the evening it’s time to have fun and relax.
