A winter wedding has many practical advantages. Venues are cheaper (including ours), suppliers are available, registrars have more openings and guests are more likely to be able to come.
Perhaps you want a winter wedding to coincide with your engagement date. Or maybe because your family has lots of birthdays over summer and you’d like something to celebrate in the winter months.
There are lots of reasons to get married in winter, but just in case anyone doubts your decision, here are 5 more.
1. Winter countryside is stunning
The British countryside is stunning at any time of the year. However, the light in winter is better for photographs. There are no dark shadows and you won’t squint in the sunlight.
With or without snow, the rolling hills and winter skies make an awesome backdrop at Barnutopia.
2. You don’t need to worry about the weather
This might seem counter-intuitive but it’s true. Outdoor summer weddings have to have a poor weather contingency plan. Not so for a winter wedding. You know you’re more likely to get married inside so you make sure your venue is beautifully dressed for an indoor wedding.
You can still get fabulous pics outside if it happens to be a lovely day (and even if it’s not), but an outdoor ceremony is a bonus.
3. The romantic accommodation
Okay, so perhaps the accommodation isn’t different for a winter wedding, but there’s something very romantic about being warm and cosy with your significant other on a cold winter’s night. That and some winter venues have truly enchanting wedding suites.
Barnutopia luxury glamping accommodation includes yurts, cabins, a stable and a bunkhouse. All are fully furnished with real beds ready to sleep in and have power, light, heating and free Wi-Fi
4. You can use seasonal decor
Mistletoe and ivy, fairy lights, burgundy, emerald green, silver, gold and Christmas colours. Whether you prefer icy cool or rich warmth, winter weddings allow you, perhaps, to be a little more lavish and sumptuous than a summer wedding.
Barnutopia’s first wedding was in August 2017. We were not ready for winter weddings over the winter of 2017/2018, but we are, now. We look forward to hosting our first winter wedding and getting some amazing pics.
5. Serve comfort food and everyone will love it
Forget Prosecco! How about delicious spicy mulled wine for your reception drinks? Maybe a hog roast with baked jacket potatoes or chilli con carne with hot garlic bread. Later, burger and chips or freshly made BLTs. End the evening with toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate around a campfire.
At Barnutopia you can self-cater, bring in mobile caterers or we can cater for you.
