Owners and Animals

Katrina Boydon and Felix

Barnutopia is a small family-owned glamping site on the Shropshire side of the Wales – England border about 5 miles west of Oswestry, Shropshire. The owner lives with her family in the farmhouse next to the yurt field and stable block. Donna Jones, the manager, spends almost as much time at Barnutopia as she does at home. She and her family are part of the Barnutopia extended family.

The glamping yurts, cabins, stable and bunkhouse are conveniently located near to the farmhouse and facilities and you can expect to interact with other guests on site. It is a great environment for social glamping. See site plan to get a feel for the layout. If you prefer total seclusion from other guests, this may not be the right glamping venue for you. Or you could hire the whole site for a wedding or event.

The location is just out of the way enough to be considered off the beaten track, but close enough (5 miles) to a good sized town for restaurants, grocery shopping and other conveniences. We have a local pub, the Wynnstay Inn, which serves food, under a mile away. There is another, the Green Inn, three and a half miles away. Views are stunning and the farmyard environment is quirky and interesting, especially for children. There are lots of places to eat within ten miles and a plethora of things to do locally.

The glamping units are clean, furnished with real beds and other furniture and have power, lighting and heating. We clean and vacuum regularly, but they are not hotel rooms. You may find the odd spider or dead fly and the stables may be a little dusty. The shared kitchens have everything you need to prepare, cook and eat food. The bathroom block has gents, ladies, wheelchair access, baby changing and showers.

We have received many, many 5-star reviews and positive feedback.

About the Owner & Her Animals

I am Katrina Boydon, Mrs B or whatever you feel like calling us! Barnutopia is my small, family owned business offering yurt, stable and glamping and a tent campsite. I live at the farm and manage all aspects of the business.

Born and raised in Llangollen, Wales, I worked for many years in the United States as a digital marketer. I love animals and next on my list to add at Barnutopia are wallabies (although this may never happen). I thought about Barnutopia for many years before finally taking the plunge, giving up my “proper” job in the US, moving back to Britain and setting up. We started with three luxury yurts in June 2015 and added a furnished stable and a comfortable dome tent at the end of the year. The rest, as they say is history.

Felix and Fiona

Felix and Fiona, our kunekune piglets arrived during summer 2015. They love a good scratching.

Ziva and Zebedee Barnutopia dogs

Beautiful dogs, Ziva and Zebedee. No picture gallery would be complete without them. Any guesses on the breeding of either dog?!

Tabasco and Pinky, Barnutopia cats

Pinky and Tabasco

Our two cats have their own suite in the stables. They are very friendly and love the occasional treat from a guest.

Ben and Jerry, miniature Hereford cows

Ben and Jerry, miniature Hereford bullocks

Ben and Jerry are surprisingly small for fully grown cattle. They may be found in the pasture or at weekends, we often bring them down to the paddock on the glamping site.

Andi and Sassy, Barnutopia donkeys

Donkeys Andi and Sassy.

The Barnutopia donkeys are favourites with guests. They love nothing more than to make you jump with their unbelievably loud braying.

Zwartles sheep at Barnutopia

Zwartbles sheep Gavin, Stacey, Nessa and Neil

Our amazing Zwartbles sheep arrived in spring 2023. They share the pasture with Ben and Jerry.
