Black Friday Tradition
Black Friday shopping originated in the United States and is the informal name for the day after Thanksgiving. Typically, shops offer bargains and discounts and shoppers have been known to sleep outside stores with heavily discounted goods. Since 2005, Black Friday has been the busiest shopping day of the year in America.
More recently, Cyber Monday, the Monday following Thanksgiving, has been added to allow online shopping outlets to get in on the first wave of Christmas shopping.
Amazon introduced Black Friday to the UK in 2010. In 2019, several retailers have launched sales ahead of Thanksgiving and offer deals all week in the run-up to the famous sale day.
