Why are vintage wedding venues so poplar right now? Maybe it’s because today’s brides and grooms yearn for the romance of yesteryear.
Vintage provides such endless choices that you can create your own unique event that represents the unique couple you are.
What Does Vintage Even Mean?
Look up “vintage” in a dictionary and, once you get past the wine-related meanings, you might get to this definition: “… denoting something from the past of high quality or which is the best of its types” (Concise Oxford Dictionary, 1999).
That definition is itself getting old, though it may not quite yet be vintage. But many people today have slightly different definitions. So the Urban Dictionary defines it as “Too old to be considered modern, but not old enough to be considered antique“. And it goes on: “An item of age, usually from around the 1920s to approx 20 years ago.“
We aren’t convinced 1999 should be considered vintage. But themes from the 1920s through to the 1970s or ’80s should give your imagination plenty of scope, whether your taste in weddings leans to the conservative or the quirky.
What Are Vintage Wedding Venues?
In theory, you can hold a vintage wedding anywhere. There’s no law that says you can’t hold yours in a newly built venue, surrounded by glass, chrome and concrete.
But it can be tough to bring out the vintage theme in such an environment. And you may find somewhere more age-appropriate easier to work with.
Perhaps that could be the former period home of a rich family. Or a village hall. Or a comfortable, converted, year-round barn venue with a vintage vibe.
